Tiguan has always been a huge success for Volkswagen in the world. It is not only the most successful in its lineup, but also the first model to break the 600,000 sales barrier in 2019. From being reborn to showcasing, Tiguan has developed into a huge global success for Volkswagen. For India, Tiguan arrived in mid-2017. However, only three years later, Volkswagen eliminated this SUV due to strict BS6 regulations. Now, the German giant has brought back India's second-generation Tiguan facelift, the former showroom, with an introductory label of Rs 3.19 million. Here, we will tell you all the information about this Indian-specification Tiguan.

In 2007, Volkswagen presented its first generation Tiguan for the first time at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IMA) in Germany. Subsequently, an updated model was introduced in 2011, followed by the second-generation Tiguan in April 2016. During this period, Tiguan was a successful product of automakers. In fact, Volkswagen produced more than 1,50,000 Tiguan in 2008—a year after its debut, sales reached 5 million in 2015.

What's new outside?

Volkswagen has not made any major changes to the appearance of the new Tiguan. It still has a conservative shape, but with a modern feel. In short, the Tiguan appearance update is limited, only decorative. In the meantime, please watch the first impression video of the new Indian specification Tiguan on the CarWale YouTube channel to learn more.

More importantly, the most eye-catching feature of the appearance is the new matrix LED headlights, called IQ.Light. The headlights have 24 independent LEDs, providing advanced front lighting systems, range control and beams configured in different situations. Surprisingly, the Tiguan headlight unit is very similar to the iconic golf headlight. In addition, new daytime running lights have been added to the wingtip design of the aircraft.

In addition, there is a new grille with three horizontal slats and a new bumper with black inserts and chrome bars. At the back, Tiguan got adjusted LED taillights, including three kite-shaped elements and a rear bumper with chrome trim. In addition, it is also equipped with roof rails, 18-inch wheels and seven paint options.

What's new in it?

This new Tiguan has the same dark cab as the pre-facelift model. It even uses the same center console design as the previous model. However, there are some new elements, such as the steering wheel, the capacitive touch controls of the air conditioner, and the gear lever.

Volkswagen is also equipped with a fully digital 10-inch dashboard and an 8-inch infotainment touch screen equipped with the latest MIB3 software. In addition, the interior is equipped with Vienna leather upholstery seats, three Type-C ports (two at the front and one at the rear) and three 12V sockets (front, rear and luggage compartment).

Volkswagen has provided reasonable configuration for the new Tiguan, namely six airbags, electronic stability control, anti-skid adjustment, electronic differential lock, hill start and descent control, engine drag torque control, rear ISOFIX, panoramic sunroof, and three-zone temperature control (Rear single zone with touch-sensitive temperature and mechanical blower control), 30 colors of ambient lighting, four reading lights (front and rear), cooling glove box, electronically adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, electric opening / Trunk closing function, 4Motion all-wheel drive system. In other words, the first driving review of the new Volkswagen Tiguan will be launched on our CarWale YouTube channel on December 24, 2021, so please subscribe and stay tuned.

What's under the hood?

The new Tiguan is equipped with a new 1,984cc in-line four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine produces 188bhp and 320Nm. In other words, compared with the 141bhp/340Nm power output data of the Tiguan diesel engine before the facelift, this new gasoline engine produces significantly higher power but slightly lower torque.

The refreshed Tiguan offers a single variant called Elegance. Delivery of the SUV will begin in mid-January next year. At the same time, Volkswagen is assembling the Tiguan at its Aurangabad plant in India. In other words, the German SUV competes with Citroen C5 Aircross, Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass.

In short, the facelift has brought very subtle changes to the Tiguan's appearance and interior, as well as some new equipment. Tiguan has reasonable functions and enough trunk space. The Tiguan is priced at 3.19 million rupees (introduction, front showroom), which is comparable to Citroen C5 Aircross, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.

There is only one variant of Tiguan, elegant. Volkswagen could have provided a choice of two variants. Don't forget that Volkswagen India has omitted some modern features, such as 360-degree cameras, ventilated seats, and more importantly, Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
