Car cannibals have struck in Birmingham removing parts off a vehicle leaving an office worker carless for her daily 20-mile round trip. The incident took place in Muirfield Gardens in Kings Norton at around 11pm last Friday (April 8).

The thieves smashed the quarter light window on the driver’s side of a red Toyota Yaris. They then proceeded to open the bonnet, stealing that, along with its bumper, front lights and number plate.

A witness reported two thieves stealing the bumper off the car, They said they believed the thieves 'made off in a dark coloured car'. He asked not to be named but said: “My wife’s car was attacked in Muirfield Gardens in Kings Norton on Friday (April 8) night. They had smashed the quarter light window near the wing mirror and took the bonnet, bumper, front number plate and parts of the lights.

"I have no idea of who’s done it. Somebody nearby knocked on the door that night as they knew it was my wife’s car.

"I rang 999 and as I told them the offenders had gone they said just because of the nature of what happened they wouldn’t be attending. “I did say there may be forensic evidence or DNA.

"But they said they would only attend if it was a burglary. I have emailed the local team but have yet to hear back.”

The car was around five years old but the couple are waiting to hear if the insurance company will pay for a repair or deem it a write off. The car owner’s husband, who is in his 50s said: “The insurance company took it away on Saturday. They are going to let us know. Later this week if it’s repairable or a write-off.

“I’m a student and my wife works in an office. It’s hit us quite badly. My wife works in the middle of nowhere which is a 20-mile round trip. These people have no concern for the emotional effects they cause in the current financial climate.

“This is a nice area. Our neighbours are really good but this has left us feeling empty and nervous. We are worried will it happen again. My wife doesn’t want the same car. If they’re targeting Toyotas, they may come back round and have another look.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We received a call just after 11pm on April 8 from someone reporting two men stealing a bumper from a Toyota Yaris in Muirfield Gardens, Birmingham.

"It’s believed the men made off in a dark coloured car. Anyone who saw what happened or the car making off is asked to message us on Live Chat through our website and quote crime ref 20/368659/22."
