The Genesis Electrified G80 offers serious electric performance and ushers in solid luxury and plenty of features at the same time.

The electric vehicle market has vigorously grown all of a sudden because of rising gas prices and aggressive marketing by automakers. With the EPA imposing new rules and pushing automakers to go electric, automakers have been quite busy with electric vehicles for the past couple of years, to say the least. EVs are the future, and they have proven their capabilities since they stepped onto the market. From being stylish luxury cars to track monsters, EVs have given tough competition to gas-powered vehicles.

Hyundai's luxury division, Genesis, has been a distinct luxury car company in the market, offering buyers unique recipes at lower prices than Europeans. Recently, Genesis has introduced some new electric vehicles to extend its grip on the US market. While they have a decent lineup of electric vehicles, the Electrified G80 astonished us with its long list of merits. The Genesis Electrified G80 is an all-new offering from the South Korean automaker, and although Genesis hasn't revealed its exact price, we expect it to arrive with a base price of around $80,000, making it an alluring offering among electric luxury cars.

Genesis’s distinct and stylish exterior design approach continues to impress and elevate its status quo in the luxury car segment. The exterior of the e-G80 offers a subtle mixture of sporty and luxury design cues, which Genesis likes to regard as "Athletic Elegance". The e-G80’s fascia looks sharp and rich at the same time. The hood looks muscular with its straight, bulging body lines. Below, the fascia flaunts Genesis’s iconic G-Matrix patterned crest grill along with a pair of bi-LED strips housing the quad-LED headlights.

The Genesis e-G80 looks even more handsome from the side because of its longer wheelbase and the set of 19-inch Hyper Silver Design alloy wheels. The G80’s rear looks equally amazing, with the sloping roof line and bi-strip LED taillamps design making it instantly recognizable.

The e-G80 is propelled by a pair of 182 hp high-performance electric motors at the front and rear of the chassis. Both the motors are outfitted to form an e-AWD system that offers a total output of 364 horses and 516 lb-ft of torque, offering 11 horsepower less and 125 lb-ft of torque more than the gas-powered G80.

Since the E-GMP platform supports an electrical architecture up to 800V, Genesis has equipped the e-G80 with a powerful 87.2 kWh battery, which requires only 22 minutes to charge from 10 to 100% with the 800V adapter. The battery can also be recharged via roof-mounted solar panels, which Genesis offers as an option. According to Genesis, the e-G80 will offer a combined range of up to 323 miles with the battery fully charged. Genesis says the e-G80 sedan takes 4.9 seconds to hit 0 to 60 mph, but we expect the 0-60 mph timing to be in the ballpark of 4.5 seconds because of its staggering torque.

As far as handling is concerned, the Genesis e-G80 offers a rich ride quality and some of the best handling in the segment. The car offers three driving modes: comfort, sport, and custom driving modes. Besides, the car comes with ventilated disc brakes, and the brakes come with a regenerative feature to charge the battery via kinetic energy. The sedan comes equipped with a robust braking system that offers an admirable braking response. To optimize the ride quality, the adaptive suspensions come equipped with the Preview Electronic Control Suspension feature, which uses cameras and sensors to detect potholes and bumps to automatically adjust the suspensions to offer a comfortable ride.

Genesis has taken opulence seriously and designed the cabin with the best materials available. As a result, the cabin looks masterfully crafted and offers solid comfort. Most of the interior is detailed with soft manmade leather with either aluminum or open-pore real wood inserts for aesthetic decoration. The dashboard looks sleek and features ergonomically placed intuitive controls. The dashboard features a wide touchscreen, sleek AC vents, and a touch-type climate control panel. The lower dashboard offers two dials that deliver crucial interior aesthetics. The cabin also offers different secondary storage points cleverly littered all across.

The interior comfortably seats four passengers, but you can also use the rear center armrest to seat a child. The front side features two power-adjustable seats that offer heating and cooling, lumbar support, and memory for extra comfort. The rear row offers heated rear seats as standard. While we don't know the exact passenger space provided to the occupants, we expect the front to offer 41.1 and 42.5 inches of headroom and legroom, respectively. The rear seats will offer 38.1-inches of headroom and 38.3-inches of legroom. In addition, the seats offer superb comfort with their leather covering and woolen quilted design.

The Genesis e-G80 comes well-equipped and, frankly, we are impressed with how pragmatically the G80 is loaded with features. The interior offers natural leather seats, a pair of 12-way power-adjustable front seats with heating and cooling, memory and lumbar support, heated rear seats, aluminum or real-pore wood interior trim, leather and heated steering wheel, touchpad controller, shift-by-wire glass dialer, tri-zone climate control system with air filter, and active noise cancellation.

The cabin also boasts a capable infotainment system. The interior offers three displays as standard. The driver’s side offers an 8-inch color cluster, a touch-type AC panel, and a 14.5-inch color touchscreen. The cabin also provides a 17-speaker Lexicon premium audio system as standard equipment. Aside from these, there are wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice-activated navigation, wireless phone charging, music streaming apps, Genesis Car Pay, and a slew of other features.

Albeit the IIHS hasn’t laid their hands on the e-G80, they have tested the regular G80 and awarded it the Top Safety Pick+ title. Thus, we expect the e-G80 to offer similar safety. If that’s not convincing enough, Genesis packed the car with ventilated disc brakes, lane keeps assist, traffic sign recognition, driver attention warning, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane following assist as standard. Besides, there are plenty of other optional driver assistance programs available in packages.
