Being the centerpiece of Porsche, the 911 has been a sensation for enthusiasts like you and me. However, while the automaker has declared that it will continue to produce ICE-powered 911s as long as possible, the transition to electrification is necessary to keep the lineup alive. A few straightforward renderings by Nicholas Vigier will persuade you that the upcoming 911 EV won’t be as awful as you fear.

Like any modern car concept, the 911 EV looks futuristic and not very Porsche-like, especially without the iconic oval-shaped headlight modules. Instead, the mini LED strips look like they are from the Taycan’s headlights. In addition, the curved bonnet, the vast intake grille, and the front splitter are reminiscent of the latest 992-gen 911. Even if the intake grille’s layout is a little boxy, its enormous size shows that it was imagined to maintain the battery’s optimal temperature.

From the sides, you can see the distinctive roofline constructed of a single piece of glass. The glass panel goes above the A-pillar and the B-pillar to meet the tail end. The six-spoke wheels are covered majorly to reduce drag and have blacked-out treatment. Porsche branded blacked-out side skirts look great in contrast to the Ocean Blue exterior color. Like the current 992-gen 911, the EV concept sits very close to the ground.

The rear bumper has been aggressively designed to create maximum downforce. So you will notice a massive rear diffuser with a dotted LED cluster in the center, which is very reminiscent of Lexus’ new Electrified Sport concept EV. In addition, the LED lightbar is even sleeker and more elegant-looking than the current 911. The fender design is different for the rear wheels and was intelligently designed to maximize airflow.

One of the strengths of the 911 has always been its raw performance, which is because of the flat-six engine, both in naturally aspirated and turbocharged flavors. The current 992-gen Turbo S is the most powerful 911 ever built by Porsche, and it spools out a whopping 640 ponies and 590 pound-feet of torque from its 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine.

So, in the future, expect better performance from the electrified iteration of the 911, especially with the electric motors. More than 700 horses and 650 pound-feet of torque wouldn’t be ridiculous to expect. However, by the time the 911 EV arrives, solid-state batteries will be more prevalent and, therefore, will be incorporated into the 911. So if you think that electrification will kill 911’s driving pleasure and legacy, then you are wrong.
