CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A stolen-car chase that crossed the Kentucky state line ended on US Highway 41A east of Clarksville on Saturday after deputies stopped the vehicle using spike strips.

The situation began at about 9 a.m. with a vehicle being stolen off of McClardy Road in north Clarksville, according to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Mark Wojnarek.

The vehicle, which witness Katelyn Butler described as a maroon SUV, was spotted by the Oak Grove Police Department and pursued along the state line, Wojnarek told Clarksville Now.

That pursuit led down Oakland Road and Merriweather Road in Clarksville, where Oak Grove PD ended their pursuit.

The vehicle passed an MCSO deputy on Trough Springs Road, and MCSO picked up the pursuit. They deployed spike strips on 41A near the Thirsty Goat restaurant, and the vehicles tires were popped.

The vehicle kept going onto Bagwell Road at about 20 to 40 mph on the rims, Wojnarek said. The deputies forced the vehicle off the road and took the suspect into custody.

The suspect is the 53-year-old son of the vehicle owner, Wojnarek said. Deputies found small amounts of crack and marijuana in the vehicle.

Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to assist.
