Jeff Carlson wants you to get as much from your smartphone’s built-in camera app as possible and put together this guide on PopPhoto to get you started. You’ll learn how to quick-launch the camera, trigger the shutter with the volume button, quickly adjust exposure, focus, zoom, and camera modes and more in iOS 16 and Android 13.

As with every camera—smartphone or traditional—there are plenty of features to help you get the best shot. Be sure to explore the app settings and the other buttons (such as setting self-timers or changing the default aspect ratio) so that when the time comes, you know exactly which smartphone camera feature to turn to.
