The 2022 Rivian R1T is one of the fastest and most futuristic electric crew cab pickup trucks out there. Available for a base selling price of $73,000, the R1T is the first offering from Rivian and comes packed to the brim with unmatched tech and outstanding capabilities. The quad electric motor makes for surreal acceleration, and the range is superior to many of the segment rivals.

The 2022 Rivian R1T comes with a futuristic design language on the outside and the cabin takes a more classy approach. The premium materials and a well-laid-out infotainment system add to the opulence of the cabin too. The excellent towing capacity is going to make it compete neck-in-neck with the likes of GMC Hummer EV and Ford F-150 Lightning, both of which are its chief rivals. Before putting your money on the table, here are 10 things you need to know about the 2022 Rivian R1T.

Coming with many advanced mechanical and off-road-centric features, the Rivian R1T is a purposeful off-road truck. The multiple drive modes are available and the four off-road specific modes make sure that you can come out of any hardcore off-road trails with ease.

The air suspension setup can increase and decrease the height and the adaptive setup makes sure that you do not feel hurdles on the way easily. The torque vectoring system gives the right amount of torque to the wheel with traction. The quad motor setup is ridiculously powerful and the 14.9" of ground clearance is class-leading.

The Rivian R1T comes with a quad electric motor putting out a combined output of 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque. The front axle gets an electric motor producing 415 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque and the rear axle comes with an electric motor producing 420 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque.

The 0-60 MPH takes 3 seconds and the power goes through the dual motor AWD drivetrain. The quarter-mile takes 11.9 seconds, and it has a top speed of 111 MPH. In comparison, the GMC Hummer EV also did almost similar acceleration times.

The macho design of this electric pickup truck makes sure that it turns heads wherever it goes. The boxy front end with the LED light strip and the excellent ground clearance makes it look very purposeful. The nine exterior color palettes add to the design too.

The straightforward side profile design with clean character lines, 20", 21", or 22" all-season tires, beautiful alloy wheel design, and the flat black add to the character. The rear end comes with LED taillights, a black bumper with a silver insert, and clean Rivian badging on the tailgate.

The steep price tag of the 2022 Rivian R1T is going to make it hard to attain for many truck enthusiasts who want a powerful and capable electric pickup truck. Available for a base MSRP of $73,000, it is also slightly more expensive than the rivals like the GMC Hummer EV and Ford F-150 Lightning.

The GMC Hummer EV is available for a lower base price of $69,995, and it also comes with most of the interior, exterior, and safety features as standard. The GMC offers more infotainment features as well.

Like the Rivian R1S, which is the SUV version of the R1T, the interior looks perfect for such an expensive offering. The cabin comes with nature grain ash wood trim on the dashboard and armrest and the vegan leather upholstery goes well with the elegant overall design language.

The single-piece dashboard comes with a massive touchscreen infotainment system in the middle and leather inserts on the dashboard and door cards with contrast stitching is going to make the cabin much more premium than the rivals. The panoramic roof is onboard and that brings in quite a lot of light too, making the cabin feel very airy.

The touchscreen infotainment system that comes with the 2022 Rivian R1T is one of the biggest screens that are present in a production vehicle. It also comes with many features like Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, voice recognition, Bluetooth, USB ports, Alexa, and wireless charging.

However, both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support are not available with the 2022 Rivian R1T. In comparison, the GMC Hummer EV and Ford F-150 Lightning retain both these features. The Rivian Elevation audio system by Meridian speakers is standard with the 2022 Rivian R1T.

Being an electric pickup truck that comes with an impressive 128.9-kWh battery pack, the range on offer is superior to all the segment rivals. The 2022 R1T could do an EPA estimated driving range of 314 miles. However, Rivian is also planning to launch a smaller battery pack variant in 2023.

The 2022 Rivian R1T can do 74 MPGe in the city and 66 MPGe on the highways. This equates to a combined range of 70 MPGe. Rivian is setting up 3,500 DC fast charging networks across the United States, and they will have a charging output of 200 kW. They are planning to set up over 10,000 Rivian Waypoint Chargers too.

Space is one of the biggest criteria of any premium offerings out there, and thankfully, the 2022 Rivian R1T doesn't disappoint. This is a 5-seater pickup truck and there is excellent space for all the passengers and their luggage.

When it comes to the cargo area, the 2022 R1T gets a bed, front trunk, rear storage bin, under-seat compartments, and center console and gear tunnel space. This helps to give out 62 cu ft of cargo space. The tailgate comes with a gooseneck hinge system that extends the bed length to 83.9". There is a digital air compressor, under-bed storage, and tie hooks as well.

The Driver+ assist suite comes as standard with the 2022 Rivian R1T and that takes care of the safety of the passengers. The Driver+ system offers many advanced features like highway assist, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, lane keep assistance, lane departure warning, and blindspot monitoring.

The automatic high beams make the R1T a comfortable daily driver at the night and all the parking features and collision mitigation features are onboard too. The aluminum alloy, ultra-high strength steel, and carbon fiber construction enhance safety. However, it hasn't been crash-tested yet.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is a brand-new offering in the United States market, and it is the first moniker from this brand. However, the unmatched warranty coverage makes sure that you do not have any niggles in the years of ownership. The comprehensive warranty is available for 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The comprehensive warranty includes all parts and labor necessities too. There is a battery pack and drivetrain warranty for 8 years or 175,000 miles. The unlimited miles corrosion warranty is available for a whopping 8 years as well.
