A lot of people aspire to own a luxury SUV–a veritable mobile palace loaded with luxury and technology. But not everyone can stretch to buying a class-leading example, such as the Bentley Bentayga EWB which sets a new standard. Yet for those on a limited budget, there is an answer.

The HyundaiPalisade is a fine SUV. It's a sophisticated family-hauler that offers extended seating, a superb ride, and proper luxury fittings. It may not be as fast as the affordable mid-level Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti, but it serves up far more practicality.

In a marketplace flooded with SUV offerings, the Hyundai Palisade stands out; not simply because it looks great, but because it delivers a superb all-around package. But before you rush out to the dealer, here are 10 things you should know before buying a Hyundai Palisade three-row SUV.

Hyundai's biggest SUV is a hit with families. A commanding-looking vehicle that offers a lot of flexibility, the model offers a more muscular look along with plenty of cabin space plus cubbyholes galore. It's a big family vehicle that is unlikely ever to be outgrown by a brood.

With seating for either seven or eight adults, the Palisade can move a family. With every member sitting in luxury. Each gets a great elevate view of the road and scenery. Very little road noise also enhances the already quiet cabin. It is a great SUV for long journeys.

A dominant-looking SUV, the Palisade is also a top performer. Under the large hood sits just one engine choice. A 3.8-liter petrol V6 paired with an automatic 8-speed gearbox produces 291 hp and 262 lb/ft of torque. On paper, this may not seem enough, but out on the road, it pulls strongly and moves along with grace and pace.

Not built for speed, the Palisade will haul to 60 mph in a respectable 6.9 seconds. Flat out, it will hit 132 mph. The highway economy is rated at 27 mpg, all being very good for such a big vehicle. It's also available in both 2WD and 4WD.

Every Palisade boasts an impressive equipment list. With even the base SE model getting a 12" touchscreen sat nav, LED lights and a host of safety features. A push-button start, 18" alloy wheels, and Wi-Fi hotspot are also included. It's an impressive package that gets better.

On the opposite end, the Calligraphy trim is simply sumptuous, with both second-row captain seats and heated third-row seating along with an extensive list of luxury additions. It's a fully loaded SUV that needs nothing.

With its impressive specification list, the base SE model starts at $34,950. That is a lot of luxury Hyundai for the money, especially when you consider the amount of space and refinement on offer. Moving up through the grades isn't a costly exercise either as they're all competitively priced.

Jumping up to the SEL sets a buyer back $37,950, while the more luxurious XRT comes in at $40,250. Each offers a wealth of features. Being one from the top rung, the Palisade Limited weighs in at a keen $46,500. Every model feels special, well-built, and value for money.

The Hyundai Palisade is a premium product. It's also a flagship model for Hyundai. Showcasing the company's ability to produce luxury motor vehicles. And while it may not currently offer a hybrid or EV version, the Palisade still ticks a lot of boxes. One's other SUVs fail to fill.

Experienced in either 2WD or 4WD, ride quality is excellent. Those not needing to tackle rough or slippery terrain will find the 2WD version a fantastic vehicle.

The inside of the Hyundai Palisade is cavernous. Depending on model specification, either 7 or 8 adults can comfortably be accommodated. On top of this, there is plenty of space for luggage, assorted equipment, and just stuff in general.

As a load lugger, there is generous space on offer. With all the passenger seats flat, it will offer 2446 liters. Even with all three rows in place, there is still ample space as a useful 509 liters remains. The Palisade is a flexible people-swallowing machine.

Running costs shouldn't be high either. With respectable fuel economy achievable for such a large vehicle. Hyundai has also proven to be reliable. The tried and tested 3.8-liter V6 does not give any issues. The Palisade remains a dependable, solid choice for families.

Right through from base to top-level specification, everything feels well constructed. The doors have a nice weighty feel, all the controls are tactile, and the layout, shaping, and contour of interior surfaces are thought out. It's hard to find any fault with the cabin. It's just premium.
